The Lord’s Place, Inc.

September 3rd, 2010

2 The Lords Place, Inc.The Lord’s Place is dedicated to breaking the cycle of homelessness by providing innovative, compassionate, and effective services to men, women, and children in our community.

For 30 years, The Lord’s Place has been changing the lives of homeless families and individuals in Palm Beach County. The Lords Place was incorporated in 1982, but the organizations charitable work began years before when the founder, Joe Ranieri, opened a soup kitchen to feed the homeless in 1979. In 1983, the organization expanded its services by opening the first shelter in Palm Beach County specifically for homeless families. Throughout the mid-1980s and into the 1990s, The Lords Place grew in size and prominence becoming Palm Beach Countys first real voice for homeless issues.

Today, The Lord’s Place continues to assist homeless families and individuals in restoring and securing economic stability. In October 2007, the agency put into place an internal continuum of care of innovative programming designed to break the cycle of homelessness through nourishment, targeted personalized support services, and housing. In January 2009, The Lords Place introduces the Café Joshua Job Training and Placement Program filling the invisible void that is missing for the homeless with most employment programs. The program employs an educational model that teaches the hard and soft skills in a supportive environment as well as meets the participant where they are by not asking them to be something they are not. As a result, we believe the ongoing support and services provided by the programs staff and volunteers will instill behavioral changes in the participants and greater the probability for sustainable employment and ending the participants homelessness.

The agency serves the homeless through a variety of programs and services that includes interim housing, permanent housing, intensive case management, job training and numerous support services. Please go to the Programs page for more information on our programs and services.

Finally, in an effort to be more self-sustaining, in 2008, the agency launched a Micro-Enterprise program to provide revenue for the agency and training opportunities for our clients. The program includes: Café Joshua Catering , Maintenance & Beyond and One More Time Thrift Shop. Café Joshua Catering offers affordable catered lunches to local nonprofit organizations and businesses. Maintenance & Beyond provides a low cost alternative property maintenance for local non-profits and the general public. Services include hurricane preparation and preventive maintenance. The Thrift Shop has two purposes: it is a free standing, revenue producing program, and it provides vouchers to clients, residents, and others in need of clothing and furniture.

Hells Angels Step Up To Help At St. Anthonys

September 3rd, 2010

2 Hells Angels Step Up To Help At St. AnthonysThe sound of revving engines called to start carving turkeys on Wednesday, November 25th, 2009 when the Hells Angels came to St. Anthony Dining Room to help out for one of St. Anthonys biggest days of the year. And on Thanksgiving Thursday the historic nonprofit will served more than 3,600 turkey dinners to the poor and homeless; even Craigslist founder Craig Newmark is stopped by to lend a hand.

With the economy in the state it has been the last 2 years, we anticipate many more people will be spending Thanksgiving at St. Anthonys, noted St. Anthonys Interim Executive Director Linda Pasquinucci. We are very thankful that more volunteers and donors are coming through the doors as well, because we have never needed them more.

In conjunction, St. Anthonys 22nd annual curbside donation drive kicked off on Saturday November 21st at 9am, where clean, cared-for warm clothing, canned or dried bulk foods, and monetary donations can be dropped off to St. Anthonys donation valets. As more and more people turn to the 59-year old non-profit for basic necessities as a result of the current economic crisis, the support from everyday citizens is needed.

For 59 years St. Anthony Foundation has provided free, life sustaining support for the poor and homeless. St. Anthony Foundations programs help heal individuals and families by providing a gateway to solutions to poverty, including a Dining Room which serves 2,600 meals every day, an Employment Program/ Technology Lab, Drug and Alcohol Recovery Program, and a Free Medical Clinic. St. Anthony Foundation does not accept any federal, state, or local government money, and is entirely funded by private donations.
